Sam Risak is a writer raised in rural Beverly Hills, Florida. After she earned her BA in Gender Studies and a BA in Creative Writing from the University of South Florida, she moved closer to the “other” Beverly Hills when she received a a fellowship to pursue her MFA in Creative Writing and MA in English Literature at Chapman University. Currently, she resides in Columbus, Ohio where she studies narratives about addiction and masculinity as a PhD candidate at The Ohio State University.
The Creative Nonfiction and Graphic Essays Editor for Sweet: A Literary Connection, she is also the magazine’s co-founder of Sweet Retreats: Chiang Mai. Previously, she worked as a copyeditor for the independent publishing house Two Dollar Radio, an editorial assistant for TAB: The Journal for Poetry & Poetics, and the Craft Essays and Interviews Editor for CRAFT Literary. A fellow of the Los Angeles Review of Books Publishing Workshop and Tin House Writer’s Workshop, she has worked as a freelance editor for manuscripts of both poetry and prose, and is now finishing up her novel inspired by the “Florida Man.”
