Sam Risak is a writer raised in rural Beverly Hills, Florida. After she earned her BA in Gender Studies and a BA in Creative Writing from the University of South Florida, she moved closer to the “other” Beverly Hills when she received a a fellowship to pursue her MFA in Creative Writing and MA in English Literature at Chapman University. Currently, she resides in Columbus, Ohio where she studies addiction narratives as a PhD candidate at The Ohio State University.
The Creative Nonfiction and Graphic Essays Editor for Sweet: A Literary Connection, she is also the magazine’s co-founder of Sweet Retreats: Chiang Mai. Previously, she worked as a copyeditor for the independent publishing house Two Dollar Radio, an editorial assistant for TAB: The Journal for Poetry & Poetics, and the Craft Essays and Interviews Editor for CRAFT Literary. A fellow of the Los Angeles Review of Books Publishing Workshop and Tin House Writer’s Workshop, she has worked as a freelance editor for manuscripts of both poetry and prose, and is now finishing up her novel inspired by the “Florida Man.”
